Black Family papers, 1864 - 2005

Files documenting the Black family and their connection to Butler University. Files include two letters written to B. A. Black by his mother in 1930. It also contains photocopies of a book kept by Warren Black; a scrapbook mostly containing newspaper clippings from the mid 1920s regarding then Butler University football player Art Black; various Black family items related to World War II; photocopies of degrees from Butler University; and photographs of various family members.

Butler University 9/11 Memorial Book, 2002

Scope and Contents

Memorial book containing handwritten notes recording the feelings of students, faculty, and staff as they remember the events of 9/11 a year after it happened. This was offered to students outside of Atherton Union on Butler University’s campus. Students were able to write something with marker and sign it. Many of the sentiments have to do with prevailing through hard times as a country, freedom, and prayer.

Photographs from the 1940s of the U.S. Army Air Forces Band at Butler University and at Hinkle Fieldhouse. There is description of the photographs on the back. Many of the pictures include band conductor Robert J. Schultz who also worked at Shortridge High School.

Outline of the proposed course in American History by Albert Steiner, Jr. It tells of the goals and objectives of the course that is being proposed to be part of the core curriculum. The course would engage American Heritage of different groups in United States so all students could understand their heritage and how it fits into the larger society in the US.

It also includes two Butler University diplomas, the first from 1934 with a certificate of completion of the two-year Kindergarten-Primary Course in Education and the second is a Bachelor of Science Degree from 1936.
