Edmond Hamby and Henry Bade Civil War diary, 1861 - 1863
Scope and Contents
Photocopies of a diary as well as transcriptions. It also includes photocopies of several newspaper clippings about Henry Bade; a photocopy of the article “From Salt Form to Chickamauga: Champaign County Soldiers in the Civil War” by Robert H. Behrens; and a photocopy of “Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, Volume II 1861-1866” revised by Brigadier General J. N. Reece. This diary is from a soldier(s) in Company K, 25th Regiment of the Illinois Volunteers. The minimal documentation held by the repository indicates that the diary was started by one soldier and finished by another, either Edmond Hamby or Henry Bade as the handwriting changes significantly in July 1862. The contents tell of the everyday life of a soldier stationed in Missouri fighting for the Union Army, including the different marches they had to do each day. The collection also contains lists of each soldier in Company K and their rank.
