Holcomb Family vacation notebooks, 1928 - 1929
Scope and Contents
Journals from the travels of James Irving and Musetta Holcomb along with two of their friends and provides a full retelling of their travels in places such as Singapore, India, Japan, China, Hungary, and France. The collection is comprised of two separate notebooks, the first being from September 11th, 1928, until December 3rd, 1928. This notebook is handwritten and the second one is typed and more extensive, continuing until the end of their travels when they arrive home March 12th, 1929.

Biographical Note
The Holcombs are a prominent Indianapolis family and James Irving Holcomb was a major benefactor for projects on the Butler University campus. He was said to have donated $4 million during his lifetime to Butler and several parts of the campus are named after him including Holcomb Gardens, the Holcomb Observatory, and the Holcomb Building. He gained his money through manufacturing various household items including brushes and the first fully automated popcorn machine.
