Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials relating to Trianon, a social organization for women nonaffiliated with Greek life to join. These materials included different party/event supplies such as invitations, posters, and hand-crafted name tags. There are also numerous documents relating to certain aspects of how Trianon was run. This includes their constitution, by-laws, and meetings minutes. Additionally, there are lists of the members and officers of Trianon and documents relating to a point system within the organization. Other documents include instructions for Trianon’s rituals, booklets called “Trianon Key” that outline the history of the club and their mission, songs, and various newsletters. Other materials include pages from the Drift (Butler University's yearbook), programs for Trianon’s national convention, and various correspondence. This collection also houses many photographs and a set of stamps with Trianon’s crest.

Historical Note

Trianon, first known as Campus Club, was originally formed and founded at the University of Cincinnati in 1925 as a cheaper alternative activity to the existing sororities on campus. Trianon would give the women who were unaffiliated to still get the benefits of being a part of a social organization. In 1926, the idea of Trianon would come to Butler University as several women felt that Greek organizations had dominated campus and wish to have unaffiliated women to have a voice on campus. Miami University also had a similar club and in 1929, all three University Clubs met up for the first National Convention of Trianon. Trianon’s purpose was to foster democratic ideals and to promote fellowship and high standards of scholarship. Additionally, Trianon wanted to help be a voice for non-Greek women and serve the university in every possible way.
