Historical Note
Alpha Lambda Delta was organized and established in 1924 as the University of Illinois by two women, one of whom was a graduate of Butler University. The purpose of the honorary society was initially two-fold—to deepen and broaden the freshmen women’s conception of the cultured values of university life, and to reward and honor them for scholastic achievement.
The Butler University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta was organized by Phi Chi Nu, a Butler-local honorary society, and officially installed in 1949. The chapter has since opened to all first-year students.
