This collection contains classical sheet music composed and/or arranged by Butler University music professor Rosemary Lang for woodwind groups. Additionally included are vinyl records, upon most of which Lang played clarinet; there are also publications by Rosemary Lang. The collection includes folders containing a scrapbook with programs, newspaper clippings, and other materials that mention Lang and her performances.

Biographical Note

Rosemary Lang (1920-1985) was born in Weisburg, Indiana and lived most of her life in Indianapolis. Lang graduated with her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in performance clarinet from the Jordan Conservatory of Music at Butler University. She published multiple books on technique throughout her life and was a “mainstay” in many pit orchestras and small ensembles around central Indiana. Rosemary Lang joined the Butler faculty in 1944; she taught saxophone and clarinet and coached the woodwind ensemble. In addition, she was head of Butler’s Woodwind Department and was a Butler University Faculty Woodwind Quintet member. She passed away in 1985.

This collection is of unknown provenance. It is assumed that the estate of Rosemary Lang donated this collection to Butler University Libraries circa 1985 following her death (Accession Number 1993.001).
