This collection is primarily composed of typed or handwritten pages by Emily M. Helming which comprise a history of Butler University, at the request of Mr. Shackleford, a public relations official. The first three folders contain detailed notes and accounts of significant moments during the university’s history, including moving campus locations, buildings and architecture. The final two folders are not original material, rather holding scans and transcription of various faculty and alumni alongside biographical material.

Biographical Note

Emily M. Helming graduated from Manuel High School and later Butler University with a bachelor's degree in 1899. She earned a Master's degree from Yale in 1929 and began her career as a staff member at Manuel. She joined Butler University as an assistant professor of English in 1929 and worked as a librarian at Graydon Memorial Library from 1940-1959. She passed away in 1964 at the age of 87 and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetary.
