This collection is composed of personal travel materials, including journals, notebooks, and writings (for the purpose of tracking expenses and documenting experiences); postcards, newspaper clippings, travel brochures/pamphlets, maps, and other miscellaneous travel documents for Vivian S. Delbrook, who graduated from Butler University in 1927. Ms. Delbrook travelled widely in the United States and abroad. She went on to endow the Butler University Visiting Writers Series.

Biographical Note

Vivian S. Delbrook (1906-2006) was a lifelong Indianapolis resident, graduating from Arsenal Technical High School and later Butler University with an English degree in 1927. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and the Ovid Butler Society on campus. Later, she endowed the Visiting Writers Series at Butler, which gives students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to hear celebrated writers speak about their works. In addition to reading and writing, she loved to travel, having visited every state as well as going abroad to Haiti, Europe, and more. She passed away in January 2006.

Abstract

This collection contains materials from the travels throughout the United States and abroad of 1927 Butler University graduate Vivian S. Delbrook. Ms. Delbrook went on to endow the Visiting Writers Series at Butler University.
