Scope and Contents

This collection contains a scrapbook focused on the respective fraternity and sorority Phi Delta Theta and Pi Beta Phi on campus, consisting mostly of photographs, newspaper clippings, and invitations to different social events. It also holds dance cards and other ephemera from Butler University. Some of the newspaper clippings and photographs are of Marjorie Iba, and many of the invitations in the scrapbook are addressed to her. Marjorie Iba and her husband, Ronald Giles, were Butler students and members of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. The scrapbook has a handwritten page that states “Scraps from College 1947-1950.”

Biographical Note

Marjorie Iba attended Butler University and graduated circa 1951. She and Ronald Giles married on July 20, 1951. She went on to work as a customer service representative at the Simon Fashion Mall in Indianapolis. Ronald Giles graduated from Butler in 1951. He spent his life working in sales and passed away in June 2016.

Abstract

This collection contains a scrapbook focused on the respective fraternity and sorority Phi Delta Theta and Pi Beta Phi on campus, consisting mostly of photographs, newspaper clippings, and invitations to different social events. It also holds dance cards and other ephemera from Butler University.

Arrangement

This is an unprocessed collection. Any arrangement reflects either a pre-existing order from the records’ creator or preliminary sorting performed by staff.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection is of unknown provenance and was accessioned in 2020 (Accession Number 2020.027). However, given that there are newspaper clippings preserved regarding Marjorie Iba and many of the cards in the scrapbook are addressed to Ms. Iba, it is presumed that she or a family member donated this collection to Butler University Libraries.
