Scope and Contents

This collection is made up of a photobook with black-and-white photographs taken of Indiana politician Charles Warren Fairbanks by Robert Dunn; it includes handwritten notes presumably by Dunn. Robert Dunn was Fairbanks’ official photographer on the 1904 campaign trail as Vice-President under Teddy Roosevelt. Dunn created this photobook and gave it as a gift to the “Hon. Charles W. Fairbanks.” The photobook also includes photographs of Teddy Roosevelt and William McKinley. Some of the photographs are noted as being copyrighted in 1901; it is assumed that Dunn created this photobook circa 1904.

Biographical Note

Robert Dunn was the official photographer for Fairbanks as he campaigned as Vice-President under Teddy Roosevelt. Roosevelt won the Presidential election.

Charles Warren Fairbanks (1852-1918) served as the 26th Vice-President of the United States, working under Teddy Roosevelt from 1905 to 1909. He moved to Indianapolis after graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University and was an Indiana senator from 1897 to 1905. Before his Republican political career, he worked as an attorney and railroad financier. He passed away in 1918 at the age of 66 and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
