Indiana: A Shared Place; Many Peoples, Many Arts Collection
Scope and Contents
During the 1996-1997 academic year, Butler University participated in Calderfest by focusing on the First Nations Peoples of Indiana (also known as the Woodland Indians of Indiana). Events were co-sponsored by the Butler University Department of History, the Museum of Prophetstown, Inc and Prophetstown Great Lakes Council for Native American Studies. The events at Butler, co-chaired by Dr. Michelle Mannering, of the Butler Department of History, and Gwen Yeaman, an Indigenous cultural resources expert, fell under the banner of “Indiana: A Shared Place; Many Peoples, Many Arts”. It included a First Nations Speaker Series and multiple exhibits. The collection includes flyers, exhibit photographs and interpretation, a newspaper article about Gwen Yeaman and the events, a t-shirt, and small bags of seed pods and tobacco.

Michelle Mannering was an assistant professor of History at Butler University.
Erin Davis is the former Head of Special Collections at Butler University.
Gwen Yeaman (Ottawa/Chippewa, Penobscot, and German) is an Indigenous cultural resources expert based in Indiana.
