The Fortnightly Literary Book Club was founded in 1923 in Indianapolis by a group of twenty-two Black women who met to discuss literature and current events as well as to celebrate and empower each other. Due to segregation and racism, they were not permitted to participate in white social clubs. By 1928, the Fortnightly Literary Book Club was chartered, becoming one of the oldest Black book clubs in the nation. They remain active, meeting regularly and providing support to community literacy efforts.

Ira Mallory is an Indianapolis based filmmaker and producer. He has directed over 30 commercials, videos, and both short and feature-length films, including “Fortnightly”, “Hadassah: Queen Esther”, and “Home Before the Holiday.”
