Historical Note
The Mothers’ Council began as multiple separate mother clubs for the fraternities on Butler University’s campus. During the Great Depression, some of these mothers, particularly from the Phi Delta Theta Mothers’ Club, wished to help more and formed the Mothers’ Student Aid Fund. This brought all the Butler University students who were mothers together to help raise money as relief for students. The Mothers’ Council did this by raising funds by holding events like Gala Night and a Butler University Open House. The Open House helped raise funds but also helped draw in potential students. The Butler University Mothers’ Council purpose was to “render every possible service to Butler University.”
