Elvet E. Moorman course and lecture notes, 1872 - 1899
This collection includes a notebook from Butler student Elvet E. Moorman. The lecture notes are from classes given by Professor Jabez Hall, a professor of Homiletics and Pastoral Theology. The collection also includes an undated notebook (possibly from 1872) of lectures on homiletics and “the composing of sermons on Christian discourse” by an unidentified Butler professor, as well as a notebook of lectures on literature, logic, and Roman law, also by an unidentified Butler professor.
Thomas Carr Howe Family letter, September 21, 1918
Letter written by former Butler College president Thomas Carr Howe to his newly born second cousin, Wilfred Carr Marshall. In the letter, he welcomes his new cousin to the world and fondly mentions other family members and experiences. Also included are the envelope the letter arrived in and a photograph of Thomas Carr Howe with first cousin Lucille C. Marshall (the baby’s mother) when she was a child. This photograph is referenced in the letter.
William R. Mathews autobiography, 1893 - 1950
Autobiography of William R. Matthews, documenting his life as a soldier in World War I as well as his career as the editor and publisher of The Arizona Daily Star, which included traveling to Germany right before the start of World War II.
The autobiography is typed and roughly 250 pages. It appears to be an unfinished work; it is undated but tells the story of Matthews’ life from 1893 until 1950.
