Charles E. Feinberg collection of Walt Whitman ephemera, 1890 - 1918
Scope and Contents
This collection includes ephemera relating to American poet Walt Whitman, such as tickets to events and lectures, as well as five portraits of Whitman. The second folder includes a copy of the papers of the Philadelphia organization, the Walt Whitman Fellowship, that meets annually on Whitman’s birthday, as well as 15 programs from conferences in Philadelphia about Whitman and his life.

Biographical Note
Donor Charles E. Feinberg (1899-1988), a Detroit business executive, was an avid collector of materials by and concerning Walt Whitman. The Library of Congress holds an extensive collection of the documents collected by Feinberg in the Walt Whitman papers in the Charles E. Feinberg collection, 1763-1985.
Walt Whitman (1819-1892) is regarded as an outstanding poet of the 19th century. Many poems did not gain popular attention until after his death, including his most famous work, Leaves of Grass. He is also known as “America’s world poet” and “the first writer of a truly American poetry.”
