This collection includes a notebook from Butler student Elvet E. Moorman. The lecture notes are from classes given by Professor Jabez Hall, a professor of Homiletics and Pastoral Theology. The collection also includes an undated notebook (possibly from 1872) of lectures on homiletics and “the composing of sermons on Christian discourse” by an unidentified Butler professor, as well as a notebook of lectures on literature, logic, and Roman law, also by an unidentified Butler professor.

Scope and Contents

This collection includes ephemera relating to American poet Walt Whitman, such as tickets to events and lectures, as well as five portraits of Whitman. The second folder includes a copy of the papers of the Philadelphia organization, the Walt Whitman Fellowship, that meets annually on Whitman’s birthday, as well as 15 programs from conferences in Philadelphia about Whitman and his life.

This collection contains two Hungarian plays written by Árpád Göncz. The first play is titled, The Inheritance and the second Hungarian Medea. The plays were translated from Hungarian to English by Katharina M. Wilson and Christopher C. Wilson.

Irving Fine and Robert W. Smith correspondence, 2013 - 2016

Scope and Contents This collection consists of correspondence between professors Irving Fine of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and Robert W. Smith of Alma College in Alma, Michigan. They met in 1984 while Smith was on sabbatical in Indianapolis and maintained a correspondence for many years. Fine was a professor of Spanish and Smith a professor of Speech Communication. Fine was Jewish and Smith was Christian, and they discuss ideas of theology based on their religion and backgrounds. They also...
