Scope and Contents

Flyer for courses offered through Butler University via television in partnership with WFBM-TV. It also includes the course syllabus for one of these classes, World Literature II, English 396-TV, taught by Dr. Werner W. Beyer. Within the syllabus is what the course covers, a schedule of assignments and notes for each class day, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The collection also includes a letter to Dr. Beyer from Barnes & Noble and clippings from Time and other magazines. It is unknown what year this course was offered, letters and magazines within the collection are dated from 1962-1964.

Historical Note

Telecourses were not unique to Butler University and the Indianapolis area; they were happening through local radio and television stations around the country, serving those at home unable to be in person for classes. There was a wave of education through radio and television stations starting in the 1930s which continues through to today in one form or another.
