Scope and Contents Materials collected by Teresa Eppley Kofodimos, a 1984 Butler graduate of the Radio-TV program, which was then a part of the Jordan College of the Arts. As a part of her program, Teresa took piano lessons from Dorothy Munger and two years of organ lessons from Dr. Mallory Bransford. The items include a notebook with Dorothy Munger’s lesson notes, music scores containing Mrs. Munger’s handwritten notes, and a folder with notes by Mallory Bransford, typewritten documents on organ techniques,...

Thomas Carr Howe Family letter, September 21, 1918

Scope and Contents

Letter written by former Butler College president Thomas Carr Howe to his newly born second cousin, Wilfred Carr Marshall. In the letter, he welcomes his new cousin to the world and fondly mentions other family members and experiences. Also included are the envelope the letter arrived in and a photograph of Thomas Carr Howe with first cousin Lucille C. Marshall (the baby’s mother) when she was a child. This photograph is referenced in the letter.

"Variations Handbook," by Patricia Douglass, 1973

This collection contains a handbook composed by Butler University Ballet student, Patricia Douglass, who graduated in 1973. The handbook contains classical variations from standard repertoire classical ballets, such as “The Nutcracker” and “Black Swan.”

"White Petals," by Lucile C. Marshall, circa 1910

Scope and Contents

Manuscript entitled “White Petals,” a fictional account of life at Butler College at the beginning of the 1900s. Butler is known as “Christan College” in the manuscript and faculty members are described as the author knew them at Butler. The student characters are all fictitious. An Author’s Note is found at the back of the manuscript. The author, Lucile C. Marshall, graduated from Butler in 1906.

William R. Mathews autobiography, 1893 - 1950

Scope and Contents

Autobiography of William R. Matthews, documenting his life as a soldier in World War I as well as his career as the editor and publisher of The Arizona Daily Star, which included traveling to Germany right before the start of World War II.

The autobiography is typed and roughly 250 pages. It appears to be an unfinished work; it is undated but tells the story of Matthews’ life from 1893 until 1950.
