Scope and Contents

This collection is a photocopy of a scrapbook that Margaret Habich kept; the original remains with her family. It primarily contains newspaper clippings from Margaret Habich’s time as a Butler student; there are also materials related to her time before Butler at the St. Agnes Academy and after Butler at Case Western Reserve University. The newspaper clippings concern her participation in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, the theater department, weddings, and her academic career. This collection also includes correspondence, poetry written by Margaret Habich, and photographs.

Biographical Note

Margaret Habich was born on November 10, 1913. She attended the St. Agnes Academy in Indianapolis, a private school for girls located on Meridian Street in the downtown area. She graduated from the school in 1931 and began attending Butler University in the fall of that same year where she majored in English. While attending Butler, Margaret, who was also known by the nickname Bonnie, was involved in various social and academic clubs and organizations, including the drama club, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and the debate club. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Butler in the spring of 1935. After graduation from Butler, Ms. Habich attended graduate school at the University of Illinois and later, in 1938 received a Master of Library Science degree from Western Reserve University (now known as Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked as a librarian for some time, married and raised a family, and was involved in community theater. Margaret Habich passed away at the age of 88 on April 05, 2002.
